Chateau Montelena

Napa Valley Chardonnay 2021

I don’t know why it’s taken so long to try this bottling. I have missed out all these years. Clean purity of fruit mild depth at this early age and just plain exciting. Definitely worth the wait — 5 hours ago

Benton-Lane

Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2022

Nice Pinot. A bit lighter than I had in mind to pair with the salmon, but it’s what they had. On its own, absolutely delightful. — 9 hours ago

Pétrus

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1985

My first Petrus was a very special thing. So intense and seductive, really something out of the ordinary. It kept begging my nose going back to the glass and harmoniously gave back so much pleasure. Could feel its presence very clear after a few minutes. Incredible. 98-100. Unique and delicious. — 10 hours ago

Kirschenmann Cinsault 2022

The 2022 “Kirschenmann” (Lodi) sources its fruit from, you guessed it, Sandlands home vineyard, Kirschenmann which, only recently, had Cinsault grafted to 1 single acre of 140r rootstock (rootstock was planted in 2019 and Cinsault was grafted in 2020).

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The wine pours a slightly hazy ruby color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with heady notes of raspberries, freshly ground black pepper, Peony’s, and dried herbs. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium, fine gritty tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and sweet-tart. Drink now through 2032.

Krug

Clos du Mesnil Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne Chardonnay 1989

Immagine a piece of thread made of stony mineral of highest quality, hanging from the top of your heat till your tummy. This is surrounded by a beautiful creamy complexity typical of an old champagne of the highest quality. — 10 hours ago

Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2022

Lovely wine, not as robust as I would have chosen for the salmon, but beautiful on its own. Restaurant lists are what they are. I’d order this again. — 9 hours ago

Ode to E Assortment Syrah Grenache Blend 2004

This is one of the sexiest thing you can ever taste in your glass.
So fresh and young. The alcohol and the concentration are super integrated, making it so drinkable and extremely pleasant. Would love@to try this in 20+ year from now.

Mencía 2022

This is the last time that Tegan will offer this Mencía from the MacIntyre Estate in Sonoma; he only made it once before. No other details have been shared so I’m not really certain as to why. The wine, however, is quite lovely and very much the Mencía as I have come to know from my countless experiences with Raul Pérez and Palacios from Bierzo.

Popped and poured. This was enjoyed over the course of two days; marginally better on Day 2. The 2022 Mencía pours a deep ruby/purple color with a transparent core and a magenta rim; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is youthful with fresh, tart blackberries, granite, purple flowers, teriyaki and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium; lean and loaded with minerals. Drink now through 2032.
